I got the idea for these when I bought the construction paper. The pack of paper came with a sheet of stencils, and I just thought that the little fish stencil was so cute that I wanted to do something with them.
I chose the light blue from the package to make the bowls out of. I just found something small and circular to trace and free-handed the bottom an top of the bowl.
Then I cut out the plant life for the bowls. I cut wavy strips of green and light green paper about 1/4 inch wide and then cut them to about an inch or an inch and a half long and glued them to the bowls just above the bottom.
Then for the pebbles at the bottom of the bowl I cut little pieces of confetti out of the colors of paper I was using and glued them to a plain white piece of paper. This was a little tricky because the little pieces kept wanting to fall off. But I stuck with it and was happy with the result. I then cut the paper in half inch(ish) strips and then into the shape of the fishbowl's curve, only slightly smaller, and glued them on over the "plants". If I do these ever again though I might just invest in some sandpaper and do it that way. It wont be as colorful but will still look good.
Now this next part took a long time. I had to trace the fish stencil and cut out all the little pieces. I have 54 residents, 16 staff members, 3 custodians and about 8 friends to make them for (so about 80 fish). Anyway, to get the look I was going for I cut out the pieces, chose the color schemes and glued them to black paper and cut the whole fish out of that.
Then I glued them to the bowl.
Then I cut out 3 inch by 5 inch cards of the construction paper and glued the fishbowls to them. After that, all that was left was to draw eyes on the fish with a black marker (small googly eyes could work too) and bubbles in the water with a blue marker.
So that's what they look like mostly done. I didn't have the roster yet for the floor so I couldn't put the names and room numbers on them yet, but those went on with black marker.
Materials Note: I used glue stick because liquid glue tends to make the construction paper buckle and that's just no good.
